Hallo Universe, Hier bin ich!
51New Blog on the Creative Life.
Having retired early as a Professor of Computer Science, I would like to explore some ideas I never had time for. For instance, I always wanted to write a novel, more exciting than math or physics or engineering. But guess what, it is more difficult than expected. First it was damn hard to write the damn thing which was really the easy part. So now I have this great novel, according to me, but guess what, at least 50 rejections by agents. Well I did have several reading requests by top agents who passed.
What I have learned is that being an agent is a lousy job and getting a great pension was a better idea than being a starving writing genius. My wife was quite clear that real men do not write for a living. If she reads this blog, then I am a dead man because this is a fiction. Well what do you expect from an aspiring (creative lying) novelist.
NOW you should know that as an engineer I took and sat many English courses and later completed almost a minor in German literature so it is not that I am unaware of the writing world. I have had the pleasure of getting drunk with some (once) well known writers. For instance, Leonard Cohan refused to let me in his Montreal apartment just up the street from where I was living to repair his tape recorder that my drunken friend a novelist and later best man at my wedding had broken. My wife was wise to redirect my desires.
When I am not writing or mowing the grass I get to attend talks at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics.
Go figure, I am certainly a very mixed up guy. And in between I like to program when I am not doing physics and mathematics. Having owned several business it is clear that in the vernacular of the youth I am a so, so totally screwed up dude..
So now I am learning about the blogging community, maybe that is where I fit. Does that tell you something. I am not really boasting just setting the minimum initial conditions for discussion. Make an interesting comment and I may reply. Not sure where this Blog will go.
Got to go, I am changing the memory on one of my five computers to run Windows 7.
If you are not running Windows 7, you should be it is the best Windows ever... Trust me, I know what I am saying even if I just ordered my first Apple machine.
